Knights sweep top spots

PALMER — The Colony Knights swept the top spots during the Mud Lake Freestyle Friday afternoon near Palmer.

Brandon Schafer used a time of 32 minutes and 38 seconds to win the boys’ 12-kilometer race. Tracie Haan won the girls’ 8-K with a mark of 23:01.

Schafer led a group of four Colony Knights to the finish line. Leo Jaschek, Erik Grazulis and Darien Sinnett also finished in the top 4. Palmer’s Tobin Sworts led the Moose with a fifth-place finish.

Colony’s Bailey Meier was the runner-up in the girls race. Kiersten Johnson led Palmer with a third-place effort.

With a lack of snow in the Valley, as of Friday, organizers plowed the frost on the ice of Mud Lake near the Butte to make a 4-K loop.
