PALMER -- The Anchorage Christian Lions scored five pins and three forfiets en route to a 36-32 win over the Colony Knights in a dual at Colony High School Tuesday.
Only three of the matches in the dual were won by decision. Colony won each of those matches and also scored a pin and a technical fall. ACS won all of their matches by pin or forfiet.
The dual meet marked the first action of the regular season for the Knights. The
Lions, who partcipate in the state's small school season, have been in action for more than a month.
"I am pleased with what I saw for the first meet of the year," Colony head coach Tim Lussow said. "ACS has been going for awhile and it showed, especially with their conditioning."
"I was happy with the way the young guys wrestled. I was happy to see some unexpected performances," Lussow added. "Chad Custer at 125 and Cody Milner at 152 wrestled tough in their matches."
Custer scored a 12-2 win over Grant McGregor in the 125-lb. class. Custer immediately got up 2-0 and before the first minute of the match expired, Custer already had McGregor on his back. The Colony wrestler had McGregor wrapped up in the cradle through most of the second period but was unable to notch the pin.
Cody Milner registered the lone technical fall of the meet, beating Nolan Willis 17-2. Milner led 9-1 going into the second period after being awarded near fall points twice during the first frame. Milner notched a trio of takedowns during the second period and scored the technical fall seven seconds into the third period.
Sam Miller earned the lone Colony pin in the dual. Miller pinned opponent Dustin Neace in the 103-lb. class just as time expired in the first period.
The Knights will next be in action on Nov. 9 in a dual meet against Homer High School at the Colony Gym.
