WASILLA — The Colony Knights enjoyed a big first inning, and held on to grab a 5-4 Southcentral Conference victory over Grace Christian Thursday afternoon at Wasilla High School.
Colony scored four of its five runs in the first inning. Grace Christian trailed 4-2 early, but tied the game with a pair in the top of the third. Colony did have a quick answer in the bottom half of the inning. Cooper Smith led off with a single and scored the game-winning run on a Grace error.
Smith also scored during Colony’s four-run first. Joe Ryan led off with a double and scored on a Zach Satterly sacrifice fly to give Colony the 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Smith and Jeremy Allen scored on Alex Manning’s two-run single. Frank Urbano scored on a Grace passed ball to give the Knights the 4-0 lead.
Smith was one of four different Knights with a hit, and scored twice. Manning led Colony with his two RBI.
Trace Severson threw four innings of scoreless relief to preserve the victory for the Knights.
Warriors get past Hawks
The Wasilla Warriors used three big innings to post a 14-4 victory over Houston Thursday night at Wasilla High School.
Wasilla opened with six runs in the first, and tacked on four in both the second and fourth.
Trenton Walters drove in a game-best five runs in the win. The right fielder was also 2 for 3 with a run scored. Clayon Boyett and Ben Werner drove in a pair each.
Balau Buckmaster, Kyle Graham, James Arend and Chris Gilbert scored two runs each.
Mariners sink Hawks
Homer posted an 11-2 victory over Houston Friday evening in the Valley.
Games rained out
A pair of Palmer games were rained out within a five-night span. The Moose were set to face Wasilla Tuesday night at the Palmer Senior Field, but that game was cancelled. Palmer was also scheduled to face Colony in a Southcentral Conference league matchup Friday in Palmer. The Moose and the Knights are also slated to play a doubleheader May 21. The first game of the doubleheader will be a league game.
