MAT-SU - A pair of Mat-Su Valley teams are included in the most recent Alaska Sports Broadcasting Network Media Football Poll, released by ASBN on Monday.
Colony (3-0 overall, 2-0 in the Railbelt Conference) moved up a spot, and are now ranked fourth in the large-schools division and Wasilla (3-0, 1-0) took over the fifth spot.
The Knights improved to 2-0 with a 40-7 win over West Valley on Friday at Colony High School. The victory over the Wolfpack followed wins against Eielson and North Pole.
Voters included the Warriors in the poll for the first time this season after Wasilla handed Skyview a 38-0 loss at Veterans Memorial Field on Saturday. Skyview entered the contest as the No. 3 team in the small-schools class.
Chugiak (3-0) is the top team in the large-schools class, followed by Juneau-Douglas (3-0), Dimond (3-0), Colony and Wasilla.
Soldonta (3-0) retained first-place in the small-schools class. Kodiak, following a 28-27 win over Kenai on Saturday, moved up to No. 2. Eielson (2-1) is now third, Kenai (2-1) is fourth and Valdez (2-1) is in fifth place for the first time this year.
Colony, Wasilla and Houston each host home games this week.
In a rematch of the 2006 large-schools state title game, the Knights welcome South Anchorage to Colony High School, Friday at 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Warriors host Railbelt foe North Pole Friday at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, Houston hosts Barrow at HHS at 2 p.m.
Palmer is on the road, facing Juneau-Douglas on the island Friday at 8 p.m.
