Knights win Rally in the Valley softball tourney

Mat-Su squads owned the top three spots in the final standings of the Rally in the Valley girls softball tournament last week.

Host Colony won the overall title, finishing 6-0 over the four-day stretch.

The Knights capped the tourney with a 13-0 win over Palmer. Emma Minnick allowed four hits and fanned three in three innings. Saibree Noll drove in three to lead Colony. Olivia Betell added two RBI. Alli Morrissey scored three times. Morgan Gallagher had two hits and two runs.

In their closest game of the tourney, Colony edged Wasilla 2-1. Morrissey struck out a dozen. The Knights trailed early. Malana Bell used a run-scoring single to give the Knights a 2-1 lead in the seventh. A Lilly Diltz sacrifice bunt tied the score at 1 in the fifth.

Taylor Stivers gave Wasilla the early lead with an RBI single.

Colony also beat Lathrop (16-0), Houston (7-2), Homer (19-0) and Delta (11-3) during the tourney.

Palmer rallied to edge Wasilla 3-2 and take second in the tourney, The Moose plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. Rylei Doyle scored on a Katelynn Poczynek ground out to give Palmer the walk-off win. Doyle also used an RBI-single earlier in the inning to tie the score at 2.

Stivers drove in a run in the fourth to give Wasilla a 2-1 lead.

Abby Paddock added a run for Palmer. Deidre Ferguson also scored for Wasilla.

Palmer finished 4-2 in the tourney. Wasilla was also 4-2.
