PALMER — Early in the 2017 season, Colony head coach Todd Hopkins said the Knights have two goals among the priorities each season.
Win the duals championships. Win the state championship.
The 2016 4A state champions can cross the first off the 2017 to-do list.
Colony finished first in the Halloween Monster Bash Duals at South Anchorage, which has been known as Alaska’s unofficial state dual meet championships.
Colony beat meet runner-up South Anchorage 39-29 during the final day of the duals. Sam Sisco was among Colony’s winners, beating South’s Riley Harris 10-8 at 132. Colony’s Trace Serverson edged South’s Michael Chaput 3-2 at 152.
Colony also beat Homer 54-19, Palmer 61-18, Kodiak 72-17, Bethel 78-12, Eagle River 81-3 and Lathrop 53-18. Colony tied Wasilla 34-34.
Serverson finished 7-0 during the duals to lead the Knights Eric Christy was 6-0. Jared Hopkins finished 7-1, and both Aiden Ehmann and Rush Fannon were 6-1.
Wasilla finished fourth in the standings. The Warriors beat Homer 44-25, Palmer 47-30, Kodiak 51-33, Bethel 54-24 and Eagle River 56-24.
Palmer was sixth. The Moose beat Kodiak 64-22, Bethel 51-27 and Eagle River 46-30.
