Knights win two in East Thunderbird Classic

ANCHORAGE -- Kristina Klapperich stole a Lathrop pass and hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds of regulation to lead Colony past the Malemutes 52-51 during the second round of the East T-Bird Classic at East High School on Friday.

Colony trailed Lathrop 51-50 with less than 10 seconds left in the contest before Klapperich was able to accomplish her feat.

The loss was Lathrop's first the season. Prior to the contest, the Malemutes were 7-0 and ranked second in the 4A girls poll.

Klapperich led the Knights with 19 points in the game. The 6-foot-1 senior was one of three Colony players to hit double digits in scoring.

Siena Locke scored 11 points, while Margaret Morris added 10.

Colony went 2-1 during the three-day event and improved its overall mark to 5-3.

The Knights stormed past West 85-41 last Thursday.

Klapperich led the Knights with 29 points. Locke added 13 points, four assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Jessica Dault led Colony on the boards with 13 rebounds.

Juneau-Douglas slipped past Colony 46-38 on the final day of the tourney. The Bears used a 12-4 run in the second quarter to notch the win over Colony.

Locke scored a game-high 17 for the Knights.

Colony will return to the Valley and host the third-ranked Wasilla Warriors on Tuesday. The Valley showdown is slated for 6:30 p.m.
