Knights win Valdez wrestling tourney

The Colony Knights pinned down the team title during the Throw Down in Snow Town wrestling tournament Saturday in Valdez.

The Colony boys and girls combined to win a dozen weight classes. David Walz (103 pounds), Kade Harmon (119), Byron Reynolds (140), Broni Browning (152) and Tristen Mayer (160) finished first for the boys. Heidi Francis (107), Hayden VanderPool (114), Braelyn Troxell (126), Calico McIntyre (132), Kayden Makamson (138), Haylen Hocking (152) and Noelle Buck (235) were first for the girls.

Jake Olsen (130), Ethan Smalling (135), Joshua Quisenberry (140), Kenneth Jackson (145) and John Bennis (152) placed second for the boys. Hanna Bressler (100), Kelia Dacosta-Robles (126) and Hope Burbridge (132) finished second for the girls.

Colony finished with 259 points.

Redington was the runner-up with 245.5 points.

Mitchell Sizemore (112), Nicholas Marchione (125), Hayden Kearney (145), Michael Marquez-Hopson (171) and Triston Charley won their weight class for the Huskies boys. Ashlynn Akers (100) and Nikayla Miller (185) were first for the girls.

Leo Bukala (112), Cobin O’Mary (160) and Justus Spaulding (215) were second for the boys. Alexis O’Mary (107), Cadence Nunley (120), Bayleigh (138) and Josphine Granger (145) finished second for the girls.

Sophia Dickson won the 120-pound girls class to lead the Houston Hawks.

In Fairbanks, Palmer finished fourth in the Dustin Baxter Memorial with 345 total points, and Wasilla was fifth at 311.

Sarah Callender (126) and Lillie Vansiegman (132) won girls titles to lead the Moose. Kaylee Paulson (165) was second for the girls, and Kaelan Vesel (215) placed second for the boys.

Achilles Alexander (130) and Thailyn Reynolds (140) won their weight classes for the Wasilla boys. Brigg Pettijohn (103) and Kamryn Woodfork (285) were second.

Brynlee Lutz (138) was first for the Wasilla girls, and Taylor Cooley (100), Helena Woodfork (114) and Taryn Wright (132) were second.
