Knights win Valley Duals wrestling tourney

PALMER — The Palmer Moose held a lead, but the Colony Knights used a pair of quick pins courtesy of two of their defending state champs to help deny the upset.

Colony, which won a Halloween Monster Bash Duals regarded as the state’s toughest duals tournament, captured the title in the four-team Valley Duals meet with a 45-28 victory over Palmer Tuesday at Palmer High School.

A Zion Rogers pin in the 170-pound match gave Palmer a 22-18 lead over the Knights. But Colony jumped ahead with back-to-back pins from defending state champions Dawson Nash and Robert Haan.

Haan needed only six seconds to pin his opponent.

Austin Edwards (98 pounds) and Vincent Cramer (106) also scored wins by pin late in the dual to help the Knights win.

Colony, which won the Lancer Smith Memorial team title last weekend, finished 3-0 in the Valley Duals. The Knights beat Redington 76-12 and Houston 52-23.

Host Palmer finished 2-1. The Moose beat Houston 70-18 and Redington 71-6. Houston scored a 46-15 victory over Redington.
