PALMER — Thanks to its quick start and sturdy defense, Kodiak grabbed a 39-21 Northern Lights Conference win over the Palmer Moose Saturday afternoon at Palmer High School.
Kodiak outscored Palmer 27-7 in the first half and didn’t allow a Moose field goal until the third quarter of the win, which gave the Bears the two-game weekend sweep. Carissa Cannon scored all 10 of her points in the first half for the Bears. Hannah Wandersee netted eight of her game-high 12 in the first half.
Megan Pyles added 10 for Kodiak, now 4-0 in NLC play.
Taylor Ledger’s seven points led the Moose.
Friday, Kodiak used a big second half to earn the victory. The Bears scored 33 second-half points to beat Palmer 53-26. The game was tied at 9 after the first period, and Kodiak led just 20-14 at the half.
Jerica Nelson led the Bears with 13 points. Pyles added 12 and Cannon chipped in 10.
Kalei DePriest, Molly Osiensky and Leya DePriest each scored a team-high four points.
Palmer dropped to 2-4 in NLC play with the losses.
The Palmer boys were slated to play a two-game road series in Kodiak. The games were postponed due to poor weather in Kodiak and will be rescheduled for sometime later this month.
