Please allow me to pass along my appreciation and gratitude to all those who took part in Clean Up 2001 over Aug. 4, 5, and 6. An astonishing number of junk vehicles and cast-off appliances was collected from private properties across the Mat-Su Borough, along with a staggering amount of scrap metal.
This year's event was even more successful than last year's effort. Preliminary figures indicate 1,103 junk vehicles were collected, along with 377 appliances and an estimated 265 tons of scrap metal!! By comparison, last year's figures were 563 junk cars, 370 appliances, and 150 tons of scrap.
Thank you to the borough staff, the Alaska State Troopers, the Alaska Army National Guard, and the Alaska Job Corps students, as well as to the various community councils, drop-off site sponsors, and volunteers! The Valley is better for all your efforts! Well done!
