Kudos to community for helping homeless youth

To the editor:

Sitting in our warm houses, we read reports of heartbreaking stories about homelessness taking place within our communities. While sipping our hot morning beverages, we wish that someone would seek a solution to this problem so that we could read some uplifting news in the paper.

Well, that “someone” did come and it was the many fine folks in the Mat-Su Valley who rallied behind our homeless teens to let them know we care. Donations poured in from Palmer and Wasilla high schools as students competed off the field during the Potato Bowl to see which school could bring in the greatest amount of supplies to help their peers in need.

Donations continued to come in and were organized by Burchell High students as they opened their doors this past Saturday to distribute needed supplies to homeless teens throughout the Valley.

Thank you to all! Special thanks to the following businesses for their support: Kaladi Brothers, Mouse House, Tummies and Tots, Growing Spurts, and the volunteers who gave haircuts.
