To the editor:
I have a need to write and share some thoughts about a recent experience in our community.
On June 8, I had the solemn responsibility to be the funeral director in charge of helping with the services of a local family. I would be remiss if I did not offer my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Wasilla Police Department for their kind and gracious efforts by offering their time and services providing a police escort to the funeral procession from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wasilla to Palmer Pioneer Cemetery.
It was touching to see the police provide the family with safe passage through the intersections, and how the residents of the Mat-Su Valley pulled their cars over, offering a token of respect. It was a great reminder of times past. I can only hope that maybe this could be the birth of a new tradition that our community can adopt into our culture of today.
Our families would be able to travel safely with dignity from their churches to our local cemeteries. Again, we say thanks, and kudos to the Wasilla Police Department.
