Students at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic School had their first All Hallow’s Eve Fest on Oct. 31.
The All Hallow’s fest was open to the community and included games and treats in a warm environment. The entry fee was one can of food and three large plastic tubs were filled that night. The school’s new location on the Sacred Heart campus has afforded students many opportunities, such as this, to serve the community.
Students followed up with an All Saints Day Celebration Mass and presentations about various saints on Nov. 1.
To give honor and recognition to this day, students at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic School were assigned the task of researching the life of a particular saint.
So, from the very young Saint Agnes who died at age 12, to the well-known Saint Francis of Assisi, students learned that saints displayed heroic virtues and had a great impact on their countries and world history.
Saint Augustine said, “To seek the highest good is to live well.”
Students read how each saint tried to accomplish this goal in their lives — to place their belief in Jesus Christ as the beacon that leads them. The students were in awe at how many saints passionately presented their faith even in the face of death.
It became even more relevant after Father Scott told them that anyone is capable of becoming a saint, that each person may choose to live on the highest order. It is a choice that is given to us by our creator.
It is our hope that by learning about the saints our students have been given the opportunity to learn about ordinary people that listened to God and became exceptional leaders of our Catholic faith.
