Last year, the Lamb of God Lutheran Church opened a new building, and since then, the congregation is growing. A new position within the church is also part of that growth.
As part of her undergraduate degree, Ingrid Johnson must spend a year in an internship. The Minnesota woman is spending that year at Lamb of God Lutheran Church, and she has plenty of goals set for herself and the congregation.
"I would really like to see growth in the congregation. A lot of people associate my job with numbers, and think, 'Great, she will get us worshiping X amount more than usual on Sunday,'" Johnson said. "That may be one of the benefits, but my main goal is to see the people in the congregation reaching out to the community."
Johnson's role as the director of Christian outreach has many duties. She said she will be working with the church's youth group, will be very active in the church and be working with the community.
"Part of my job is reaching out to the community and finding avenues to connect with people who are not part of the congregation," Johnson explained.
Johnson started at Lamb of God two weeks ago, and will be with the church for at least one full year. After that, her plans are up in the air.
"I have no idea where I will go after this. There is a possibility I could stay here and work at Lamb of God, or I could be working in some other city or state," Johnson said.
The position of director of Christian outreach is a new one for Lamb of God Lutheran Church.
"We are growing," said Mac Durgelough, a Lamb of God congregation member who is active in church activities. "We are getting bigger and better all the time."
Lamb of God Lutheran Church is located on Church Road.
