PALMER — An advisory council unanimously approved one of two sites for a planned Mat-Su Borough septage plant Tuesday.
The Septage and Wastewater Treatment Advisory Council’s approval for the site near the borough landfill off N. 49th State Street seemed likely given the results of engineering examinations of two sites.
Consultants found that a site near Church and Seldon roads contained soils that were incompatible with the normal operation of a leach field.
Estimates presented by consultant C2HM Hill put the cost of building a septage treatment plant at the borough landfill at between $15.3 million and $32.9 million. Previous estimates had put the price squarely in the middle of that range.
The two sites were narrowed from a list of more than 20 possible locations.
The issue now heads to the borough planning commission.
