KODIAK — Ryan Contreras chipped in a short field goal during the final seconds of regulation to give the Houston Hawks a 10-7 win over the Kodiak Bears at Kodiak High School on Friday afternoon.
Houston improved to 3-2 in Northern Lights Conference play and is now tied with Kodiak (3-2) in the standings. Kenai Central (3-1) plays Soldotna on Saturday. A Soldotna win over Kenai would force a three-way tie for second place in the NLC and a coin flip will be used to sort out the seedings. If Kenai upsets the two-time defending state champs, Houston would be the third seed in the NLC.
Kodiak, the runner-up in the last two state title games, scored on its opening drive to take the 7-0 lead. Houston tied the game with a Bryan Mason touchdown catch on the first play of the fourth quarter.
