ANCHORAGE — The Mat-Su Miners overcame a slow start to post an 8-5 win over the Anchorage Glacier Pilots Sunday night at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.
Mat-Su scored all eight runs in the final four innings, and improved to 8-3 in Alaska Baseball League play.
Anchorage used a four-run seventh in the seventh, but the Miners took the lead right back with three in the top of the eighth. Mike Antico reached on an error with the bases loaded, and both Justin Ammons and Rainer Ausmus both scored to give the Miners the 6-5 lead. Later in the inning, Austin Bull scored on a Elijah MacNamee single.
In the ninth, Ammons scored on a Bull single to push Mat-Su’s advantage to 8-5.
The Miners finished with 11 hits in the win. Bull was 3 for 5 at the plate to lead Mat-Su. Antico and MacNamee added two hits each. MacNamee also drove in two runs.
Mat-Su has Monday off, and returns to the field to host the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Hermon Brothers Field. As of Sunday night, Mat-Su sits at the top of the ABL with a 1.5-game lead over the Anchorage Bucs (6-4).
