Before the festivities, activities, and yes, shopping, could get underway during this year’s annual Colony Christmas, another tradition was called for-breakfast!

The Palmer Lions Club hosted their annual Breakfast Buffet. With scents of cinnamon rolls, the crackling of eggs, and of course, what breakfast can really be called breakfast without bacon, bacon, and bacon! The Palmer Lions Club breakfast spread had nearly everything needed to fuel up for a day of fun and tradition the way only Alaskans can celebrate the holidays.

“We were surprised and excited at the number of people who came out this year,” said Jane Ringler of the Palmer Lions Club, who said that this year’s attendance surpassed the total number of guests last year. This year, there were over 250 people, including some very hungry hockey players, who turned out for breakfast.

“The vibe was absolutely wonderful. There was laughter, and people talking and smiling, just the perfect way to kick off the day,” said Ringler.

Of course, what Christmas story would be complete without a little elf needing some last minute help.

As Ringler tells it, an ‘elf’ named Carol Kenly was running to a local grocery store to pick up some food items the Lions were running short of, and that as luck would have it, after grabbing extra eggs, orange juice, and other items, this ‘elf’ realized that she missing her pocketbook. While trying to appeal to the manager, a kind-hearted shopper stepped up to help, offering to pay for the food as a donation to the Lions.

“We are reminded that we have a small but wonderful community, and we rely on the graciousness of others, and that’s what it’s all about.”

Ringler assured that there was never any danger of shutting the doors to any hungry guests, even after going through 45 pounds of bacon.

The proceeds from the breakfast buffet will go the Palmer Lions Club Community Outreach Programs.
