Laundry room fight leads to loads of trouble

WASILLA — A woman upset over a clothes dryer bit two people and pulled out clumps of one woman’s hair and then tried to bite the two police officers who were arresting her.

According to court documents filed by Alaska State Trooper Kevin Vik, the incident was reported at an apartment building at 3:24 a.m., March 11.

“When I arrived on scene I observed two females in the laundry room fighting,” Vik wrote.

One woman — who turned out to be Kayla Clabo — was physically restraining the other, Vik’s report says.

Vik said he sent Clabo upstairs. Then when he went to go talk to her, she kept changing her story and it didn’t sound like the truth, his report says. Also, she didn’t want to tell troopers who her boyfriend was.

“Kayla stated she would not tell me his name because he is on felony probation and he was not supposed to be there,” Vik wrote.

So Vik went to talk to the woman who’d been restraining Clabo and two other people in her apartment. Two — a man and woman — had bite marks on them. The one who’d done the restraining had a busted lip and a cut on her hand.

One of the women told Vik that, “Kayla left her clothes in the dryer, so she moved them so she could put her clothes in,” Vik wrote.

The woman left Clabo a note. Clabo woke the woman and her family up at 2:30 a.m. to confront them about it, after which they went to Clabo’s apartment, stopping by the laundry room first where they found a note.

“Don’t touch my cloths (sic) and be disprespectful (sic) and put them on the floor,” it reads, minus the profanity. “At least I put your (sic) on the dryer.”

When they arrived at Clabo’s apartment, they told Vik, Clabo attacked them. Clabo’s boyfriend and another man separated the two fighting women.

When they left, they heard a physical altercation going on inside the apartment, then saw Clabo’s boyfriend leave with Clabo’s baby.

“Kayla then came down to their apartment and when they answered the door Kayla attacked them,” Vik wrote.

Confronted with all this, Clabo started to get angry. She told Vik she’d hit her boyfriend because she was mad at him for breaking up the fight.

“Kayla continued to change her story of the chain of events and where they occurred. Kayla began yelling unreasonably loud at myself and Sgt. Manrique, making threats, taking a close aggressive stance, flicking the middle finger, calling names and screaming, ‘get the f--- out of here!’ multiple times,” Vik wrote.

That’s about when troopers tried to arrest her.

“Kayla turned, pulled away from myself and Sgt. Manrique, and attempted to bite Sgt. Manrique multiple times,” Vik wrote.

That’s when they tied her hands and legs.

“Kayla then attempted to bite me multiple times and attempted to head butt me. Kayla would not stop fighting and had to be carried to my vehicle,” Vik wrote.

A breath test at around 5 a.m. returned a result of .108 percent. The legal limit for driving is .08. Clabo was charged with assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct and booked into the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility. She has since entered a not-guilty plea and had her bail set at $1,500. She was still in jail early Saturday afternoon and will need to find a third party to watch her before she can be released on bail.
