Longtime resident of Palmer, Laura Donn Godwin, went to be with the Lord on September 1, 2022, while home with her family by her side. Graveside services will be held at the Palmer Pioneer Cemetery on September 17th at 1:00 pm. A celebration of her life will follow the service at the Matanuska River Park. We are inviting all Laura’s friends and family to a potluck BBQ. Please bring your favorite dish. Donations in lieu of flowers are greatly appreciated.
Laura was born in Detroit, Michigan, on February 23, 1954. She moved to Alaska with her parents Dick and Betty Donn in 1959. Laura moved to Jacksonville Florida in 1969 where she was first married and had two sons that preceded her in death, as well as their father Keith Goodrich. Laura and Chet Godwin were married several years later and the boys were adopted by Chet Godwin, who also preceded her in death. Laura spent the last years of her life with her best friend Lee Stahl who also preceded her in death.
Laura enjoyed reading, traveling, horses, and working at the Valley Hotel where she spent 28 years of her life working with her friend Dottie and her big sister Linda. Laura had many friends she loved. Few people knew that Laura was appreciated by the United States Army for her dedication and service on the Varsity Rifle Team. Laura was a military Mom. Laura loved her Dog’s Lucky and Patch. Laura especially Loved going to Las Vegas! Luckiest Lady Ever!!!
Laura is survived by brothers Michael, Chuck, and James Donn; sisters Linda Donn, JoAnn Richardson and Terry Wilkins; many nephews and nieces; and two grandchildren from Kevin Godwin, Jacob and Lan’ea Godwin.
