Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Laurene H. Marley, 92, formerly of McCammon, Ariz., Pocatello, Ariz., and Palmer passed away Jan. 24, 2004, at her home in Mesa, Ariz. She was born Nov. 7, 1911, in McCammon, Idaho, the daughter of Leo Harris and Esther Wolverton Hall. She attended school in McCammon and graduated from McCammon High School.
She married Fred Whiting Marley on June 14, 1930, in McCammon, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1977. They had two children, Shirley LaDene, born in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, and DeWayne Hall Marley, born in Pocatello, Idaho.
They lived around McCammon and Pocatello, then in 1937, they moved to Mountain City, Nev., then back to Pocatello in 1946. Fred was drafted into the army in 1942 and was discharged in 1946. They lived in southeast Idaho until 1964, when Fred's construction skills took them to Kodiak. Fred passed away in 1989. Mrs. Marley continued to lived in Alaska to be near her children and grandchildren. She was active in the L.D.S. Church and taught primary until she was 86 years old. She severed a mission with her husband in 1977 to 1979 to the Nevada Las Vegas Mission.
In Sept. 2003, she moved to Mesa to live with DeWayne and Norma having lived in Palmer for 39 years.
She is survived by her son DeWayne (Norma) Marley of Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers, Lynn (Jean) Hall and Howard (Janice) Hall, all of McCammon, Idaho; nine grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter Shirley LaDene Jackson; two brothers, Eldred Hall and Brent Hall; three sisters, Lucille Baker, Leola Larsen and Zella Neeser.
Funeral services were held Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
Her family said, "We would like to thank everyone who helped make it possible for our mother Laurene to stay at home during her illness and for their many acts of kindness."
