Learn about coal mining Monday

To the editor:

When I went to the Mat Valley Coalition/Envision Mat-Su public meeting Feb. 26 to find out how to help fight coal mines in the Valley, I was upset to be running late. I figured with the hundreds of people there, I would have to park blocks away and hoof it in. Surprisingly, parking was readily available at the Palmer Public Library as there were less than 100 people there. Either people weren’t aware of the meeting or are not aware of the terrible collateral damage of coal mining.

As Shannyn Moore pointed out, “Democracy is not a spectator sport.” The main reason the 99 percent got so much attention is because they showed up. The next meeting is March 11. Please check it out for yourself.
