Legge doesn’t get it

To the editor:

Pardon me, but this cannot go without comment: Liberal cartoonist and now economist/genius Chuck Legge stated the following: “In 2011, the president and Congress were arguing over whether or not we should pay the bill on money we had already spent. This is called raising the debt ceiling, which is, again, allowing us the means to pay a bill we have already run up.”

Chuck, really?

Raising the debt ceiling does not pay a single bill on money already spent! It simply enables the fed to borrow more money (that it does not have) to spend even more.

“The bill we have already run up” is the debt. Raising the debt ceiling just means enabling more debt.

Chuck, imagine that the national debt is the balance on your VISA card. Do you appeal to VISA to raise your credit limit so you can pay your VISA?
