To the editor:
Recently you ran an editorial regarding a road to Nome that stirred a lot of response from the Lower 48 and a few locals answered them with derision, or agreement.
It is my belief that the state of Alaska should expand this to a utility corridor, comprised of a multi-line railbed (one for freight, one for tourists), as well as an electric utility intertie system and a natural gas pipeline with feeder spurs to regional hub communities. We should, at the same time, connect the Alaska Railroad to the Canada rail system to facilitate supplies to build these projects. Talk about job creation.
As long as we are dreaming let’s build a road around the perimeter of Alaska to facilitate access to our coastal communities, yeah even Juneau.
It would promote tourism, development and political equity for our remote towns. Sounds sort of Hickelesque doesn’t it? The man was a dreamer, but I for one miss him, his ideas for our state and his lack of fear to dream big.
So Hollis, Kim, Mr. Harris, wanna be remembered as a builder of Alaska or a destroyer? Do you offer constructive actions on the state’s behalf? Or destructive impediment and personalized politics? Are you afraid that little lady will run you out of office?
