Lifelong Alaskan and Copper Center resident Leo Palmer Fleury, 59, died Feb. 27, 2005, at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, following a short illness.

Visitation will be at 7 p.m. Friday, March 4, in Copper Center. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Copper Center, with the Rev. Jim Johnson officiating. Pallbearers will include Bernie Marten Jr., Steve Pete, Kevin George, Brian Herring, Leonard George and Melvin George. Burial will be in Copper Center Cemetery.

Mr. Fleury was born Jan. 21, 1946, in Palmer. He enjoyed dog mushing and watching movies.

His family wrote, "Leo was a very quiet, but kind-hearted, person. He loved to walk and spent many hours every day out walking. He also loved dogs, especially his dog, Sheba. He will be missed by his family and friends."

Survivors include his sister, Thelma Roberts of California; sister and brother-in-law, Leona and Ken Johns of Copper Center; brothers and sisters-in-law, Victor and Irene Fleury of Wasilla, Albert and Linda Fleury of Eagle River and Roy and Darlene Turner of Shishmaref; brother, Amos Fleury of California; wife, Velma Fleury of Anchorage, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leona Turner and Emerse Fleury, and brother, Forrest Fleury.

Arrangements were made with Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E St.
