Leo Palmer, born 1/1/1925 and died on 9/5/2023 in Wasilla, AK
He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren the last days of his life. Leo was a lucky man; he was loved by all who knew him. He always had a joke in his pocket and a smile on his face. If you needed help, he was right there to help in any way he could.
Leo lived a full life. He was a Deputy Sherriff in KS. He trained in the 82nd airborne as a paratrooper during WWII. He was a roust-about, and a mechanic in the oilfields of TX, AK and Indonesia.
He recently received his 75-year pin as a member of the Masonic Masons of Atwood, KS.
Leo is best known as a true cowboy and loved spending time with horses. Leo love horses and he remembered the name of every horse he owned. He never met a horse he didn’t like. He learned to ride before he could walk. He spent many a day out breaking horses in the corral in Kansas. He loved riding and at 77 years old, he was one of the oldest barrel racers in the Mat Su at one time.
Leo loved gardening, wood working, games, puzzles, working out at the gym, singing old cowboy songs, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and most of all putting a smile on someone’s face.
He is remembered by his sister, Merle Wolf Colby in KS, his children, Kelly Rettberg, James (Jerri) Palmer, Jamie Palmer, Jason (Cyndi) Palmer, and Jarrod (Janet) Palmer, seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, his many nieces, nephews, and everyone’s heart he has touched.
His Celebration of Life will be held at the Wasilla Senior Center – 1352 S. Century Circle on September 16th at 10 am with a pancake feed.
