In a recent front-page article focusing on Senator Huggins’ review of this year’s legislative session, the writer indicated that only one other Valley person had served as president of the Alaska Senate: Lyda Green. That is incorrect.
Jalmar Kerttula served not only as president of the Senate, but earlier as Speaker of the House (the only legislator ever to chair both houses). Additionally, Kerttula holds the longest record of service as a member of the Alaska Legislature. We owe him acknowledgement for that commitment to the people of the Valley and Alaska.
