Let it go

To the editor:

In response to your editorial opposing Medicaid abortions, I can only say that you anti-abortionists have a very short memory.

The issue has already been hashed out in the Legislature (and yes, Governor Parnell was there at the time) and has been adjudicated by the Alaska Supreme Court. The net result was that If we are going to offer medical care to the needy, then we also have to offer abortion services.

The decision to abort a pregnancy is an intimate one arrived at between a woman and her doctor — not a woman, her doctor and the editor of the local newspaper. Let it go. You lost that fight.

Editor’s note: The editorial to which Mr. Fairfield refers agreed with Gov. Sean Parnell’s veto of additional funding for the Denali KidCare program, not Medicaid.
