I was pleased to learn recently of Nancy Lethcoe’s candidacy for the District 12 state House seat. I have known Nancy since my early days as a teacher in Whittier more than 30 years ago. She is energetic, positive and focused on the public good.
As a retired teacher with 30 years of experience in the Chugach and Mat-Su districts, I appreciate Nancy’s sensible approach to educational issues. Rather than being a rubber stamp for popular ideas, she seeks hard evidence for their viability and considers Alaska’s unique range of needs.
She is committed to expanding options for learners, including funding for public preschools, on-line education programs and more technical and trade opportunities. She favors the use of cost differential factors to make school funding equitable for the variety of communities in the state. She supports returning to a defined benefits retirement plan to help Alaska regain its competitive edge in attracting and retaining quality educators.
Nancy Lethcoe is committed to promoting excellence for Alaska schools as a necessary step to building strong communities. She will be a voice of intelligence and integrity in Alaska’s Legislature.
