LETTER: A fan speaks out

To the editor:

Although I am a fan of The FRONTIERSMAN in all of its incarnations, I do disagree with Managing Editor Matt Hickman’s hope for no PFD by the autumn of 2018. I have no squabble with Hickman’s practical and pragmatic reasons at the end of his Sept. 30 editorial. It’s the principle of it!

The PFD, as it was originally structured, is a huge economic boost for Alaska -- each autumn. This is the season just after school resumes at all levels and just before the Thanksgiving/Christmas celebrations and shopping events.

I have a list for the $1,022 which is coming very soon this year, and I also have a longer list for the $1,032 which I also hope to receive -- soon.

It is our money. We live here. It’s our resource. It’s our economy.

Speaking of OUR: As I said in this past week’s Toastmasters’ speech [I was practicing “Persuasiveness”] -- The FRONTIERSMAN is our community newspaper -- yours and mine. It is our newspaper.

Disagreeing with the Editor does not in any way take away from my support of the paper.

I look forward to it three times a week.
