I went to school in Wasilla in the early 50s and remember an old gentleman who performed at the Grange Follies named Shorty Gustafson. He always sang “The Song of The Old Sourdough” which I believe he wrote, and played the banjo. Has anyone ever recorded that song? Does anyone remember the words? All I can remember is the chorus; “Oh, where do dey come from and where do dey go. Dey must have places that we never know. You got to have your bacon and your beans, dat’s all, and crawl into your cabin when the snow begins to fall.”
I would certainly like to hear from anyone who remembers Shorty and his song.
