LETTER: New blood will help in District 10

To the editor:

I recently sat down to review the candidates for District 10. Like many in the Mat Su Valley, I am concerned about the financial future of our state, the social and economic outlook for the families in the Mat Su, and I believe new blood will help fix some of the mistakes of the past legislature. The more I read and review David Eastman the more concerned I have become about his motives for representing District 10. To me, he appears to be shopping around for a district to represent. He ran for office in the Fairbanks area, he wanted Carl Gatto’s seat in Palmer, and now he wants to represent District 10. A review of his campaign donations reveals the oil industry is already purchasing influence with him. On his website he claims he wants to “retire the failed incumbent politicians who got us into this mess” because of their ties to special interests. Well, Mr. Eastman is already accepting money from special interests. ! He will shortly become the thing he is running or proposing to run against. Furthermore, his website discusses nothing of specific issues facing the families of the Mat Su. The issues part of his website is a cookie cutter template of general conservative issues and doesn’t hone in on this district. Take job creation, his solution boils down to let the private sector create jobs. This is the solution from a person working for the Mat Su Borough and previously for the federal government. I doubt Mr. Eastman has tried to find a non-government small business job to feed his family. This man is out of touch with reality. Look folks, we have some issues facing the Mat Su Valley, not all of them can be solved by the government but electing someone who is open, honest, and knows the district will go along way to helping. Electing a new version of the previous guy won’t. I am left with one choice: Patricia. Take a look at the priorities section of her website. The budget, education, infrastructure--the issues are there. Don’t fall for the conservative laundry list of issues, most of which are federal issues. That is how we elected problems in the past.
