LETTER: Obamacare has become Murkowskicare

To the editor:

Will we Alaskans fall for it again? It has been called by some the biggest political fraud of the last hundred years.

First, Alaskans inflicted Obamacare on the nation with the election of Mr. Begich to the U.S. Senate to cast a deciding vote on the matter following the disgrace that was the prosecution of Ted Stevens. Now we have Obamacare converting to “Murkowskicare” with her vote to refuse to even debate the issues after constructing her recent campaign around “repealing Obamacare”, stating in one campaign speech that “we must repeal Obamacare” because Alaskans have only one choice of provider and that is not acceptable.

Recently, she stated that we cannot repeal Obamacare because Alaskans only have one choice of insurance provider. She simply caved to her special interest contributors. Not only did Senator Murkowski vote against even debating the issue of healthcare, she also voted against removing the mandates and the penalties associated with them. Those very special interests waged an expensive advertising campaign both before the Senate votes and after the votes, trying to make it sound like Senator Murkowski was looking after Alaskans’ interest. She was simply looking after the interest groups who supported her campaign.

Now Senator Murkowski is waging a public relations campaign trying to convince us that she is in forefront of “healthcare reform”. If you believe her this time, shame on you. “Murkowskicare” is on the verge of collapse, with many states having only one insurance provider on the exchanges and a few on the verge of having none. If you have exorbitant increases in your health insurance, if you have insurance that is difficult to use due to high deductibles or co-pay, or if you receive a penalty notice when you file your income tax next April, be sure you call Senator Murkowski’s office to thank her for what she has done when she converted Obamacare to Murkowskicare.
