LETTER: Priorities in policing

To the editor:

I read on the Facebook page of the Alaska State Troopers, caught several people illegally fishing, 5 fish were confiscated at Eklutha Tailrace due to a well planned sting operation.

Wow.

I see people driving dump trucks, no tail lights, no license plate, running people off the road doing double the speed limit on small streets and I call the police and troopers and they do nothing. I see road rage, accident after accident... call it in (you know REDDI report every dangerous driver) only to have not one trooper or police officer bother to show up.

We have meth heads, everywhere trying to steal things, and reports of home invasions all over the Valley. Seriously where is the priority here? I agree that these idiots are illegally fishing and that is bad, nobody is being placed in harms way with this.... and yet you have four or five troopers down there?

Oh my god, that is so annoying! A lady was pushing her baby carriage down our road, and was nearly run over by a dump truck with no license plate! People drive like this because they know they can get away with it. Seriously if you do the math on the revenue the state would make on speeding tickets, no insurance (typically $500 ticket or more), speeding tickets for doing double the speed limit would be $800 ticket. So look at the revenue the state troopers would get. KGB people are passing one another on the right hand side of the road with no shoulder... again passing on the right is illegal but it happens all day long in Wasilla!

People are like children if they know they won't be punished for a crime, they will keep doing it (I know its a rough analogy) so people drive fast, they don't register their plates, they don't care about a tail light, and especially these construction vehicles (who are making the most in our rough economy I might ad) who are flying from job site to job site.
