To the editor:
Before it gets too far into this year, I want to write about a miracle that happened to us in Palmer on New Year's Day, 2018. New Year's day was on a Monday this year. That weekend on Saturday evening, my Step-Daughter, Lyndsey, text that her chocolate lab puppy that was given to her as a birthday gift from her husband Brian.
In May of last year, the dog was hit by a car just outside her apartment and ran away. Brian and Lyndsey's brother, and some other young men searched that night in the wind and the cold and tracked it to Farm Loop Road area. Lyndsey posted the loss on the Borough Website and other places. The next day we all went out to search and were joined by more volunteers than we ever expected.
One couple who were to marry on New Year's day brought their four wheeler to help out. Two separate men brought their tracking dogs to help search. Other people searched on foot. Landowners in the farm loop area gave their permission for all us strangers to search on their land. One man called just to say they were leaving their light on that night for the dog. Three separate churches prayed for return of the dog, Remy. On the third day, New Year's day, I told Brian that we were going to find the dog that day. I prayed for god's help and I went to the last place she was tracked to. I searched the area for about 45 minutes and then I told God that we were not going to find the dog without God's help. I started to drive away and then I spotted a dog in the distance in a field-I wasn't positive it was Remy. At that very moment Lyndsey text me that she did not know what to do, she was losing hope. I frantically text her back a photo of the dog and after some chasing with the help of another wonderful couple, the dog was caught and taken to the vet immediately. Remy has some cuts and a broken jaw which was wired and is now healing but she is fine. Lyndsey set up a "go fund me" page for the vet bills which also garnered overwhelming response. The response from the
community in our time of need made a very big impression on this young
couple and their friends. We could not have found the dog without the joint
effort of all the volunteers who were also miracles, and we just want to thank
everyone involved in Palmer and particularly the Farm Loop Road area who
helped us find Remy, the miracle dog.
