LETTER: This is not a 'Christian' country

To the editor:

According to Matt Hickman’s September 16 column, his “boyhood idol” Ann Coulter, writes, “God raised him [Trump] up to save the last Christian country on earth.“ To call this a Christian country violates a core American value (see the non-establishment clause of the U.S. constitution): there is NOT any established religion in this country; people of any religion (or no religion) are equally valued. That freedom of belief is what makes America special. No religious group (Christian or any other) has any right to claim the country for themselves, as if the rest of us are not real Americans. I’m a little concerned about Mr. Hickman: does he understand this?
