On “Addressing the Assault on the Media” Francis Wick goes way over the line in his final paragraph. Referring to liberal bias in the media, he says that it ”can, in some corners, be considered more treasonous than colluding with the Russians’ attempts to hack the election.” Treasonous? That statement is an attack on our freedom. A free press (biased or not) is essential for democracy, and when you identify it as treasonous you justify eliminating it like a wartime enemy, or worse. That leads to the end of our access to any news that the government doesn’t like. Or, is Wick trying to avoid responsibility for that statement (while making it respectable) by saying “in some corners”? It does not deserve any respect if you care about freedom and democracy. Nobody is unbiased; but at least the New York Times and Washington Post do their fact-checking. One way to get both sides is simply to follow more than one kind of news outlet (speaking of bias, just try to find anything negative about Trump, or positive about any liberal politician, on Fox News).
