Letter to the Editor

There are poorly trained, masked, ICE and Border Patrol agents with tactical gear in Minneapolis acting more like gangs of armed thugs than professional law enforcement officers. Two people are dead as a result and others injured while exercising their constitutional right to observe and protest. Residents have been seized from their homes without legally required judicial warrants. Lacking political courage to confront the Trump Administration, Dan Sullivan and Nick Begich have been silent on this extreme federal overreach. Lisa Murkowski has shown more grit and correctly called for a congressional investigation of ICE actions. But even that is not enough. Congress should withhold further funding for ICE until its overly aggressive methods in Minnesota and elsewhere end, and personnel that have killed or assaulted people without provocation are identified and brought to justice.
