Letter to the editor: Speaking out against gravel pits

Stop digging holes all over the valley. In the butte alone there are six gravel pits, three still in operation. After the owners are done they just walk away and leave a big hole. They should at least be made to do reclamation on these areas a better solution is to mine gravel from the Matanuska or Knik river beds. Not only would we stop ruining the land the rivers could be rechanneled to stop erosion a win for everyone.
