WASILLA — This year’s Light of Hope event is 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., April 30 at Curtis D. Menard Sports Center.
The day includes more than 30 children’s activities, live music, food, resource information and workshops designed to increase family skills and improve parenting strengths.
Speakers include Father Oleksa and a special recorded address by Sen. Mark Begich.
Workshops at the event include topics such as attachment and bonding issues, foster parenting in the Valley, teen dating violence, the value of play, Internet safety and Alaska Native cultural crafting.
The event also includes the eighth annual Light of Hope Awards Ceremony to honor community members who make a difference in children’s lives.
Light of Hope is organized by local agencies and community members including: Knik Tribal Council, Chickaloon Tribal Council,Office of Children’s Services, CASA, Thread, LINKS Mat-Su Parent Resource Center, Early Childhood Partnership of Mat-Su, Best Beginnings, Mat-Su Services for Children and Adults, Alaska Family Services and Colony High JROTC.
