Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Lillian Lenke Stamm, 89, died Dec. 31, 2005, at Heidi's Place.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Palmer. A viewing will start at 12:30 p.m., with the funeral service to follow at 1:30 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Jonathan Rockey. Burial will follow at Pioneer Cemetery in Palmer.
Mrs. Stamm was born Aug. 26, 1916, in Toledo, Ohio, to Susanna and Andrew Bacho. She married Archie C. Stamm on Sept. 28, 1940.
Mrs. Stamm and her husband, Archie, made frequent trips to Alaska from their home in Toledo, Ohio, in the 1950s and 1960s, permanently settling in the Mat-Su Valley in 1974.
She was a life-long homemaker, devoted gardener, craftswoman and community volunteer. She was deeply committed to serving her church in Toledo, Ohio, and St. John Lutheran Church, Palmer, where she sang in the choir and supported the church's music ministry. She took great pride in being a second mother to her nephews and great-nephews and nieces.
Her nephew John Stamm wrote, “Lillian's loving generosity, creativity, insatiable desire to learn, Christian witness and indomitable spirit were her precious gifts to her family.”
Her husband, Archie, and her brother, Albert, preceded Mrs. Stamm in death.
She is survived by her sister, Ida Bacho, from Toledo, Ohio; sister-in-law, Mary Bacho, from Toledo, Ohio; nephews, John Stamm (wife, Elaine) of Issaquah, Wash., David Stamm of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Allan Bacho (wife, Teri), of Toledo, Ohio; grandnephews and grandnieces, Nathan Stamm of Anchorage, Cherie Stamm-Roberts (husband, Jerron) of Honolulu, Hawaii, Angela Stamm-Gupta ( husband, Ash) of Rochester, Minn., Andy Stamm of Indianapolis, Ind., Courtney Stamm of Washington, D.C., and Blake and Hope Bacho of Toledo, Ohio, and long-term caregivers, Heidi and Don Angle of Wasilla.
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Palmer, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are with Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
