Lions sweep Houston

HOUSTON — In a potential preview of the Southcentral Conference Championships girls’ title game, Anchorage Christian School used a big second half to score a win over Houston.

ACS (10-0 in SC play) scored 41 second-half points during a 67-47 win over the Hawks at Houston High School Friday. The Lions will enter the conference tournament, which starts Thursday in Seward, as the No. 1 seed. Houston (8-2) is the second seed.

ACS led by only five at halftime, before a 17-point third quarter and a 25-14 fourth-quarter run.

Ne Ne Hale led the Hawks with a game-high 31 points in the loss. Hale finished 12 of 23 from the field, and also had eight rebounds, five steals and four blocked shots. Savannah Wells added seven points and five rebounds.

In boys’ action, ACS raced to a 42-12 first-half lead over Houston and scored an 82-47 victory over the Hawks.

Matt Barron and Mitchell Ruta each finished with a team-high 11 points for the Hawks. Ruta scored all of his points at the free throw line.

Sam Brandt grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
