The Little Lakehouse at Lake Lucille offers a new and unique event space for small groups.
The Lakehouse will soon be accompanied by seven newly-constructed vacation rentals known as the Stillwater Cottages, and both will be operated under the Live Local AK brand. Co-owner Megan Miks, along with her family, have been building on the property to create a unique rental opportunity close to town, but with the serenity and peacefulness of being out of town.
The newly renovated Lakehouse, which opened in December of 2024, is available as a small group retreat with seating for 24 people. A full size kitchen and large outdoor patio was designed to host a variety of uses including business meetings, graduation parties, baby showers and art workshops. The Lakehouse is available for rent seven days per week and prices for hourly and daily booking can be found online at the Live Local AK website.
“It’s just a great little spot for smaller gatherings,” Miks said.
The family originally purchased the property on Lake Lucille four years ago with the vision of turning it into a micro resort and group vacation rental. The Lakehouse was already established on the property, but in desperate need of repair. The family decided to renovate and update the space to serve as a standalone rental and to use in conjunction with group retreats for all seven cottages.
Miks said that their goal is to have two of the seven cottages available for booking by the end of August. The other five are in the final stages of construction and are planned to open this fall. Two of the cottages feature a single bedroom while the other five cottages will feature two bedrooms, all with queen beds.
The cottages face Lucille Lake and each has its own barrel sauna. Guests will have access to fire pits, kayaks, grills and a playground. Miks said they wanted to make the property comfortable and upscale, but separate from downtown life.
“Wilderness out the front door, and town out the back,” Miks said.
The cottages will be available for rent directly through the Live Local AK website and through both AirBnB and VRBO. Miks anticipates that most renters this fall and winter will be fellow Alaskans looking for a staycation.
With so many different sporting events, business trips or even locals looking for a weekend getaway, Miks believes the lakehouse and the cottages will have something for everyone.
