Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Two weeks down.
More important, 17 pounds down.
I must say, I’m pretty happy my progress during the first 14 days of the Trim to Win challenge. I’m averaging a loss of more than a pound per day, and I haven’t exactly starved myself.
I’m also happy to say that it’s been more than two weeks since I ordered something in a drive-through that had “Mc,” “big,” or “super,” in the title. Something tells me there’s a link between that fact and my weight loss.
Oh, and there’s that exercise thing too.
I’ve become a regular in the cardio room at the AT&T Sports Center. It’s not quite like, “Cheers.” Folks don’t yell out, “JB!” when I jump on to the elliptical. But that may happen with time.
I hit the AT&T this morning on the way to the office. I started with my usual half-hour on the elliptical, but rather than going for the bike, I thought I would give the treadmill a try.
Not just walking on the treadmill, but running.
For many, running on the treadmill may seem routine. But for us bigger folk, it can be more complicated.
I have a treadmill at home, and it seems like every time I try to run at a decent pace, I risk major injury. Our treadmill is somewhat old. Maybe 10. And that’s old in treadmill years. It’s like dog years. You have to multiply it by seven to figure out its real age. It’s also not exactly the quality of a machine you’d find at your local athletic club, either.
For a person my size to run on our treadmill at home, you have to run at a perfect rhythm. One little missed step and the tread will catch, and the machine will try to shoot you across the garage.
Last time I tried it and started to get a bit fatigued, I took a wrong step. I ended up falling on my butt and nearly broke my iPod.
So, this morning, heavy with fear of the potential for public embarrassment, I gave it a shot.
And I managed to pace myself at a nice jog.
It’s not like a ran for an hour or anything.
But it’s all about little victories right?
Ok, time to celebrate with this key lime pie flavored fat free yogurt. Only 80 calories.
Continued luck to all,
