Alaska artist Gail Schuster, above, does some touch-up painting on the lips of a beaver on one of two 25-foot totem poles commissioned by Valdez businessman Larry Reynolds. Schuster works on the totems Monday afternoon at her Wolf Country U.S.A. gift shop and artist studio along the Glenn Highway. Schuster, along with husband, Werner, completed the 25-foot totem poles in about five weeks. Both pine poles have a wolf, a frog, an owl and a beaver carved into them. They are topped with an eagle with large wings. The poles are being trucked to Valdez and will adorn the front of a recently purchased building Reynolds is renovating in Valdez.
