Eleven athletes from Southcentral Alaska competed in the USA Judo Junior Olympic National and International Tournament July 22-24 in Irving, Texas. Nine of those 11 athletes are from the Mat-Su Valley and a pair from the Valley placed in the events. Mat-Su Judo’s Miranda Aiken and Sydney Poorbaugh both placed. Aiken was second in the international tournament and fourth in the national tournament. Poorbaugh was third in the international tournament. More than 950 athletes competed in the events.
