Local businesses host Halloween Extravaganza on the Loop

WASILLA — Safety is always among the first things on the minds of parents as they take their children trick or treating for Halloween. And that was the goal for the local businesses that helped host the first Halloween Extravaganza on the Loop.

Families of all sizes gathered at the event, on Meridian Loop in Wasilla, hosted by The Breadcrumb restaurant and the Algone medical facilty.

Dr. Michael Montano, a local orthopedic surgeon, said that it was a great way for families to get out and trick or treat while also being safe

Doors were marked with balloons to show which business was participating. Inside, the different staffs had offices decorated with spider webs and skeletons, as well as witches and pumpkins. Many families had showed all dressed up in fun costumes. Parents and kids alike were dressed as their favorite super hero, animal or cartoon character.

Different offices features different games and prizes.

The sidewalks had children racing back and forth between buildings, eager to get to the free candy and to play the games that had been set up for them. The features included a spooky forest and an Alice and Wonderland Mad Tea Party. A witches ring toss and bowling game had been put out for those waiting to get in line for trick or treating.

There was also free hot chocolate and apple cider. Stations for taking pictures had been set up so families could snapshot the memory of their kids all dressed up for trick or treating.

Friday’s festival was among the first of the Halloween-themed events in the Valley of the season.

The annual Halloween Hallow, which benefits the Mat-Su Special Santa Program and Toys for Tots, is Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. on the Alaska State Fairgrounds. The Wasilla Museum and Visitor Center is hosting a Night at the Museum for Halloween Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The Menard Sports Center is hosting its Spooktacular event for the holiday, Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
