Local RN needs help

To the editor:

Dawn Schultz-Gordon, registered nurse and 1987 graduate of Wasilla High School, has had a very unfortunate year.

She came home from work April 16 to find her husband dead in bed. After dealing with many issues regarding the death, she had to have emergency surgery June 1. After her recovery, which involved some complications, she went back to work, only to come down with pneumonia a month later.

All of these things kept her from working on a regular schedule, which resulted in the loss of her insurance. She went back to work for another month and then got shingles. After recovering from that, she began looking for a job back in Wasilla, as she had been living in Eagle River. She had a job lined up here and found a place to live.

As she began to move, she ended up falling after an ice storm and broke her ankle in multiple spots, resulting in surgery without any insurance. As a result of that, she couldn’t take the job she was hired for and was to begin on Dec. 3. Thanks to some helpful family members and friends, most of her things were moved to her new place in Wasilla. She will be unable to put any weight on her leg for quite some time.

If anyone would like to help her, an account has been set up at Northrim Bank She has cared for the community, now it’s time for us to take care of her.

God bless all of you this Christmas season. To help Dawn, call 720-2077.
