A coalition of Mat-Su senior centers is sponsoring its local March for Meals fund-raiser. The effort asks Mat-Su Borough residents to make a donation to a local senior center of their choice to help end senior hunger.
The Mat-Su Borough has the fastest growing population in Alaska and is expected to double by 2030, according to a press release from the coalition.
The group estimates that nearly 5 percent of the state’s senior population experiences food insecurity, the release says. Nationally, 6 million seniors face the threat of hunger.
Participating senior centers are Meadow Lakes Seniors Inc.; Mid-Valley Seniors Inc.; Palmer Senior Citizens Center Inc.; Upper Susitna Seniors Inc.; Wasilla Area Seniors Inc.; and Willow Area Seniors Inc.
